Museums are a place where everyone belongs, even though it often doesn’t feel like that. I have used my 10+ years of working in museums and my advanced degree in Museum Education in service of crafting a ubiquitous belonging into reality. Objects and artworks, open-ended questions, creating shared narratives, observation-led discussions and movement and making-based activities are essential tools in my toolbox when facilitating a group (from Pre-K students or older adults) in a gallery-setting. Each time someone’s voice and culture and experience is heard and appreciated, museums get a little bit closer to their ideal.
