From the material-focused to the highly thematic, workshops come in so many shapes and sizes. Below are a few examples of what’s possible, but these are highly customizable experiences designed to encourage experimentation and playful making.
Workshop offerings can be tailored for learners of all ages and abilities, and I am delighted to create and facilitate custom workshops for you and your group or organization. Below are examples of workshops that were commissioned to connect to distinct exhibitions and installations, as well as workshops that can happen anywhere, anytime like papermaking, bookmaking, and cyanotypes.
-
Papermaking
Participants explore the possibilities of paper using sustainable, recyclable materials. Workshops begin with a demo of pulling a sheet of paper. Specific techniques such as embedding/collage and pulp painting can also be highlighted depending on time and group level. Participants leave with several completed sheets each and the knowledge of how to make paper themselves at home.

-
Bookmaking
Participants explore book forms through stab-binding and/or folding techniques. A full demonstration and resources for ongoing making are provided. Participants leave with at least one fully customized book of their own.

-
Cyanotypes
Participants will consider shape and pattern to create cyanotypes or sun prints, an alternative photographic process. We begin with treating paper with the necessary solution, then explore composition, and finally develop our works using UV rays.
