There is a type of YouTube video that is unspoken. The ambient noises of the environment are the only audio and the video creator communicates exclusively through caption and gesture. The videos are soothing in a way most other YouTube content isn’t. Instead of overfilling a space with drawn out speech and descending into lecture or a sales pitch, it feels like there is an experiential merging with the creator. The content is largely commentary and thoughts on their travel and food experiences which seem, to me anyway, often overwhelmingly ad unrealistically positive. This is a parody and a research project that asks how a meal, even a lone meal, can be a conduit for something else. I want to connect with you across time and space and learn what lies underneath.
